Wellpoint Washington Supports Atlantic Street Center’s CoRe Gaming Behavioral Health Program for Youth

Wellpoint Washington continues our partnership with the Atlantic Street Center (ASC), this time by way of supporting ASC’s CoRe Gaming Group, a behavioral health initiative targeting middle school students through video games.

CoRe— short for Courage, Cooperation, Respect, and Resourcefulness— is built on evidence-based therapies, such as Dialectal and Cognitive Behavior Therapies (DBT & CBT) and leverages covert learning techniques to reach children who may otherwise be resistant to more overt educational approaches, teaching interpersonal skills like emotion regulation, conflict resolution, teamwork and collaboration, and effective communication.

The CoRe Gaming program, which runs in South Seattle and South King County, enrolled 118 new participants last year, providing them with engaging workshops twice a week for ten weeks. Program outcomes indicate that 79% of participants experienced improved skills in areas such as distress tolerance and emotional regulation.

Thanks to Wellpoint’s direct donation of $15,000, the CoRe program was able to expand its therapeutic resources with Wi-Fi boosters to improve Internet connectivity and two new skill-building games, “NoReload Heroes” and “Screencheat,” to support interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance, and emotional regulation.

Future CoRe goals include further expansion and the introduction of a CoRe 2 program for returning participants. Wellpoint remains committed to supporting  ASC’s endeavors to provide enriching community engagement and empowerment for underserved youth.

"We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Wellpoint (Amerigroup) for your generous support of our CoRe program. Your funding has been instrumental in acquiring new equipment which is vital for the seamless operation of CoRe groups. Your unwavering support truly exemplifies your dedication to fostering positive community engagement and empowerment. We look forward to continuing our partnership and furthering our shared mission of creating meaningful programming for underserved youth in our community."
